He earned his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Brazil, in 2005, 2006, and 2010, respectively. Currently, he is Professor of Electrical Engineering at the School of Science and Technology (ECT) at Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Brazil. From 2010 to 2011 (one year), he was a postdoctoral fellow at UFCG, Brazil, sponsored by the Young Postdoctorate (PDJ) fellowship program of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). From December 2011 to March 2012 (3 months), he was a visiting fellow at K.U.Leuven, Belgium, sponsored by the Coimbra fellowship program. From June 2014 to July 2014 (2 months), he was a visiting fellow at INESC Porto, Portugal, sponsored by a Santander fellowship program. From August 2014 to September 2015 (11 months), he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Automation of Complex Power Systems (ACS) at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH AACHEN) University (one year), Germany, with a fellowship program from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). From November 2018 to October 2019 (one year), he was visiting professor at TU Berlin, Germany, sponsored by the CAPES fellowship program. In the past 10 years, he and his students have published more than 30 journal and 100 conference papers. His publications have been cited over 1,060 times (Google Scholar). His research interests lie in the broad area of generation, transmission and distribution systems, including power system protection, real-time analysis of power quality disturbances and faults, renewable energy systems, as well as smart-grid solutions.
